What is Raku pottery?
Raku Pottery is different from ceramic molds in that it is a one-of-a-kind work of art with a history, not unlike your dear departed friend.
Raku is something beautiful, colorfully iridescent, and a piece of art worthy of display anywhere in your home. Raku is a process of making pottery originated by Japanese artisans over 400 years ago. Raku clay is special clay that will withstand the firing and rapid cooling process; and the urn is thrown by hand. The process involves a second firing of the clay using great care, in a sealed environment with natural combustible materials such as twigs, leaves, and wood chips.
The source of the materials helps determine the finished look of the Raku urn, resulting in an array of colors from gold and silver, metallic copper through pink to peacock blue and with burgundy undertones. The finished surface is an earthy texture of sand and clay with a matte to locally glossy luster.
The process is such that no two Raku pieces are exactly alike. Each Raku urn is a totally unique work of art, derived from the earth, which will last forever, a most befitting resting place and memorial to your cherished pet. The clay and sand that form the pottery come from the earth, as does the glaze that generates the beautiful and unique look; all of which signify eternity. What better way to remember your loved one.

It have given me great pleasure to work with several humane societies and giving back to animals that have not been as lucky as ours. A portion of my sales go to support several humane societies. My urns (art) are priced so that anyone can afford a very special home for their precious loyal companion. I am offering urns as a piece of art so you do not have to keep an unattractive casket or box hidden away, but displayed with all the color and sparkle that reminds us of our faithful friends; something we can take with us no mater where we live.
